Meet D'Jango.
He is a sweet old man and his story will melt your heart. Django is a 9 Year Old German Shepard. He has had a really tough previous life, but is hoping for a relaxed retirement home where he can get lots of attention and hang out with his humans.
This special doggo came in to visit with me recently at the Doggo Idaho headquarters where I got to visit with him, take his picture and spend some time loving on him while hanging out with his awesome foster.
This is how our day went...
He has been a survivor for all of his life, without comfort or care for a long time, and for the first time in a while, he had a safe place to call home.
"Throughout my fostering, I have met a variety of dogs: abused ones who are shaking and so afraid of my hands until they learn that I am trustworthy; wild ones who never learned boundaries or manners and needed consistency in their lives; and ones that had been so starved for attention and affection that they just crawled in my lap and refused to ever leave. D’Jango was none of those. He was very independent, and did not want me to pet him or cuddle him. He was fine with me touching him, feeding him, and helping him, but he wasn’t going to go out of his way to interact with me. He has been through a lot and I think he just didn’t want to invest in me since no one has invested in him in a long time.
However, within days of coming into my home, he claimed an old bed next to our fireplace. It was his comfort place and he felt safe there. One night, within the week of him coming into our home, he went to his bed and just let out the biggest, most satisfied sigh. That’s when I think I really saw him. He has been a survivor for all of his life, without comfort or care for a long time, and for the first time in a while, he had a safe place to call home. After that, he would come up and say hi with a nose touch, and I started massaging his legs. At first he thought I was a weirdo, but he would eventually relax and doze off to the point of drooling as I massaged his arthritic limbs. Now, he is always once step behind me, following me everywhere, and once in a while, he gives me a small doggy kiss. It has been rewarding to watch him trust humans and learn to love people again, and I hope his forever family loves him through his golden years." - Ashley
